Engineering

As a Specialist School of Engineering, we are committed to raising achievement and improving provision and participation in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).  We became a specialist school of Engineering in 2004 and since then we have worked hard to establish and maintain strong links with local employers, colleges, universities and other organisations in Congleton and further afield.  These organisations provide expertise, support and advice to help us to extend the opportunities for vocational learning and enrichment for our students.  Partner companies including Siemens and Bentley are involved in providing specialist training programmes and Engineering scholarships, providing professional support for clubs and challenge events and organising competitions for students within school.  Engineering-related extra-curricular activities available to students include the Young Engineers Club, the prestigious Engineering Education Scheme, the UKMT Maths Challenge, Science Club, Engineering challenges and a variety of Maths, Science and Engineering related visits, such as to the Catalyst Museum and the Salters Chemistry Festival.

We are also a designated Arkwright Scholarship school and, as such, we are able to offer Year 11 students the opportunity to qualify for Sixth Form Engineering Scholarships.  In addition, a number of Year 12 students have been granted prestigious 'Nuffield Research Placements' to enable them to conduct scientific research with a company or university over the summer.
