National Careers Week Opportunities for CHS Students

Once again, Congleton High has welcomed National Careers Week (5-9th March 2018) as yet another opportunity to educate students in the many routes available to them once they leave the school.

Work Placement Coordinator, Mrs Sadat-Shafai, has planned a full week of visits and activities to enable as many students as possible to have access to information and advice regarding their future career paths. There will be different activities each day, on site and further afield, which enable students to understand and explore different aspects of a wide range of careers.

On Monday 5th, members of the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) will visit the school's Learning Resource Centre (LRC) and present to students from all year groups. As part of International Women’s Day, NWAS will be focusing on helping younger girls to make the important link between their learning and their futures and encouraging older girls to think about their next steps, focusing on careers within North West Ambulance Service. Female staff from a wide range of roles within NWAS will give a invaluable insight into what they do, their career paths and any barriers they may have faced in getting to where they are today and how they have dealt with them.

On Tuesday 6th, students interested in finding out more about a career in the Public Services will be able to meet with representatives of the Police Force, Fire Service, British Army and the Royal Air Force in the Post 16 Centre (The Taylor Building) at lunch and break. There are a great many different roles within each of these services and students will be able to gain a greater insight into the routes into these separate disciplines.

On Wednesday 7th, Post 16 students will visit Franklyn Financial Management and the logistics arm of electrical distributors, AO, based in Crewe. The students will have the opportunity to take part in an Apprenticeship Challenge, plan and deliver presentations and gain an insight into the world of work. A third group of students, ten Year 10 and 11s interested in pursuing careers in the Health Sector, will visit the "So you want to be a doctor?" Medicine Careers Day at Keele University.

Engineering and STEM provide the focus for the National Careers Week activity on Thursday 8th, with visits from BAE and Bentley, who will meet with students in the LRC at lunchtime and deliver short presentations regarding the range of career opportunities within their industries and their specific companies. Visitors from Siemens, HMK Automation Group and KMF Group will be discussing career opportunities with students across in our Post 16 Centre at break and lunch.

National Careers Week at CHS will be rounded off on Friday 9th with visits from SAS Daniels Solicitors, Thrive Creative (brand and digital communications), Franklyn Financial Management and Silk FM, all of whom will be able to offer students information on a broad spectrum of careers.

National Careers Week is just one of the many initiatives to which Congleton High subscribes to ensure that students are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices regarding their next steps after school. In addition, to organising these events, CHS Work Placement Coordinator, Mrs Sadat-Shafai, also works hard to create opportunities that will help students to develop the key employability skills that today's employers require.

Any employers who would like to get involved with helping our students with their career aspirations with advice or information or able to offer work placements, should contact Mrs Sadat-Shafai on 01260 730123 or by email: jsadatshafai@congletonhigh.com
