A Day to Remember for Mr de Souza

As the sun shone down on Saturday 19th May, Congleton High's popular PE teacher, Mr de Souza, was able to watch the guests arrive at the wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from a very privileged position, right next to St George's Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Mr de Souza was one of the 1200 guests invited by the Royal couple as a reward for their community service or charity work to enjoy the day in the grounds of the Castle, giving them a unique view of and involvement in the proceedings. A statement issued by the Palace at the time the invites were issued explained:

"Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle have said they want their Wedding Day to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too. This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters and values of the Bride and Groom."

The event was spectacular, full of all the tradition and splendour one would expect of an important royal occasion. What made it even more remarkable though was the presence of the many celebrities from sport and screen. This was a particular highlight for Mr de Souza who was delighted to spot some of his sporting favourites including David Beckham and English rugby player, James Haskell!

As if the day was not memorable enough, each guest was given a souvenir tote bag embellished with Harry and Meghan's initials and the date and place of their wedding. Inside was a range of wedding memorabilia including a wedding programme, huge monogrammed chocolate coin, shortbread and a bottle of Windsor Castle water.

Mr de Souza commented on this wonderful experience:

"[It was] one of the most amazing days ever, I was so privileged and overwhelmed to be there. I felt like a kid when I saw my hero and role model, David Beckham!"
