Congleton High School of the Week

Congleton High School played host to Silk 106.9 FM's afternoon and drivetime presenter, Darren Antrobus, recently when he visited us to record interviews with students and teachers for the Silk FM School of the Week feature. Along with seven students, Head of School, Mr Barlow, was joined by colleagues, Mr Franklin, Mrs Davies and Miss Kenny to talk about what makes our school unique.

Students from both the main school and Post 16 talked about what Congleton High means to them and the bits of school life they enjoy most. They discussed how younger and older students are able to work together to make the most of both academic and extracurricular opportunities and to make moving up into Year 12 much less daunting.

A major topic for both students and staff is, of course, our forthcoming School of Rock show and both Mrs Davies and the students were keen to talk to Darren about their involvement and how they are preparing themselves, including their trip to London to see the live stage production.

The many charity fundraising events and activites students have organised was highlighted, including the amazing £20,000 they have raised for our new Student Shelter.

The students also talked through their own plans and ambitions for their school journey and beyond into higher education and careers and how they had been helped along the way by the school and their teachers. One of the Post 16 students shared his own story, telling how he had joined CHS in Year 12 from another school and how he felt that, academically, it was the best decision he had ever made.

Congleton High will appear as Silk FM's School of the Week each day from Monday 9th to Friday 13th July, which will serve as a timely reminder to get School of Rock tickets, as the show will run that same week from 11th-13th July at Congleton High School!

You can get a sneak preview of the interviews before they are broadcast as the podcasts have now been posted on to the Silk FM website. Click here to listen.
