Kirsty Simpkins - Teacher, Spain

"Follow your passion. Something may not seem easy at first but, with the right attitude, you can achieve whatever you want to achieve!"

Name: Kirsty Simpkins

Studied at CHS: 2000 - 2008

Current Role: Teacher, Marbella, Spain

What are your memories of CHS?:

I was at CHS from 2000 and completed Sixth Form there in 2008. At A Level I studied English Literature, Spanish and Psychology as well as AS Level Philosophy and English Language.

Route after CHS:

My fond memories of Congleton High are so plentiful that I even went back to teach there! After spending some time in Spain, I qualified as a secondary school English teacher and became part of the enthusiastic English department that once inspired me so much! Mrs Dearnaley and Mrs Newton made great teachers and even better colleagues!

The MFL department also have a lot to answer for in terms of where my life is now headed. Although I found Spanish exams tough, Mrs Fallon (Wilkinson) and Mrs Bartley never gave up on me! Thanks to their support, I got my place at university and I am now completing my third year teaching at an international school in Marbella, Spain.

I have loved my teaching career but I’m going to make use of my language skills and fulfil my dream to travel through Central and South America for a year and then … who knows??

It’s never too late to make a change in your life and I’m now considering translation or interpretation as a new career challenge.

What advice would you give to your younger self?:

My advice to my younger self and to current pupils would be: Follow your passion. Something may not seem easy at first but, with the right attitude, you can achieve whatever you want to achieve!
