Reading Millionaires

We encourage our students to read as often as possible as we recognise that reading helps to develop vocabulary, opens up new worlds and helps us to understand others. To inspire students to develop a love of reading, we run our Accelerated Reader (AR) scheme for Years Seven and Eight, which tracks reading progress via a wide range of AR books and quizzes.

Students are required to read an AR scheme book that matches their reading level for a minimum of 20-30 minutes a night and are also given time to read in registration and library lessons. Once they have completed each book, they take a short, online, five to twenty question quiz to show they have read and understood it.

So far this year we have a fantastic seventeen ‘Reading Millionaires,’ who have achieved over one million words and a further 100 students with 250,000 or more words. Our top achievers to date are Year Seven, Emma Locker, who has scored an incredible five million words and Year Eight Edward Kerr and Year Seven James Cam, both on two million words.

The students achieving one million words in 2018-19 so far are:
Toby Harrison, Jessica Stanway, Harris Potts, Evie Morgan, Ruby Painter, Joseph Morrison, Emily Sparey, Ollie Smith, Theo Miller, Christabel Stanmore, Louis Dishington, Elitsa Rashkova, Alexander Hall and Oliver Crewe.
