We are very proud of our Sixth Form College and, in particular, of the support and guidance that we give to all our students. It is big enough for us to be able to offer you a wide range of courses and opportunities, but small enough for us to know you well and to be able to support you.

Financial Support

Student Welfare

We are very proud of the support and guidance that we are able to offer all of our students, whether that be financial support or support to help you fulfil your aspirations. Our students tell us they feel safe and cared for when they are with us. This is confirmed in our most recent OFSTED and SCIES (Safeguarding Children in Education Settings) inspection reports.

We foster a safe and welcoming environment, where students are nurtured and supported both academically and with the aspects of life that are pertinent to those in Years 12, 13 and 14. There is a strong feeling of a Sixth Form community as we have a separate building and a team of staff to support you in every way. Sixth Form students find that the relationship they have with staff here changes as they move in to Year 12. In contrast to many of the college institutions, class sizes are much smaller, with more individualised and personalised tuition. You will be one student in a few hundred rather than fifteen hundred! You will work in conjunction with our Sixth Form staff, who will consult you on your views (and have an open-door policy) and opinions on a whole range of matters, in line with your young adult status.

Students are assigned to a Tutor Group of about 25 students in the care of a Form Tutor. Students meet every day for Tutorial time. During Tutorial time students have the opportunity to discuss aspects of school life, plans for the future or personal challenges.

Sixth Form Team and Communications

We have a number of teams within Sixth Form whose roles are to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all students under our care:

Miss Boulton (Head of Sixth Form) is a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and leads on safeguarding within the Sixth Form, with the support of the rest of the Sixth Form Team.
Our Pastoral Team is led by Mr Franklin (Assistant Leader of Sixth Form) and includes a team of Form Tutors.
We also liaise very closely with external agencies, including Children’s Social Care, Cheshire Police, Visyon, CAMHS, SWANS and Body Positive.
Mr Donnelly (Progress Leader) monitors punctuality and lesson attendance.
Mrs Sanders is our Careers Lead.

At Congleton Sixth Form College we provide support for all students to remove barriers to learning. We also implement bespoke educational and intervention plans for students with additional pastoral needs.

Students are expected to check school emails and Teams every day as tutors and teachers will communicate via these channels. This communication will include information about opportunities that may arise (e.g. university fairs, apprenticeships, work experience etc). There will be regular assemblies and PSHE Stop Mornings - attendance to these is compulsory.

If you have any concerns or queries, we usually recommend contacting your child’s form tutor in the first instance, who will then be able to direct you to the most appropriate member of staff. We value the close working relationship between home and school and know just how important this is in order to help students achieve excellence; especially at Sixth Form where the academic challenges are a significant step up from KS4. We love to hear about our students’ successes and achievements outside of school time so please do help us celebrate by sharing photos and stories with your child’s form tutor or emailing them to our dedicated success hotline: success@congletonhigh.com. We will then share these on our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and in our half-termly newsletter.

Uplearn

Our Post 16 provision subscribes to Up Learn, which is a revolutionary online independent learning and revision platform for A-Level students. Each student has their own log in to access this facility and the hundreds of online video lessons covering their A Level course, available any time on the computer. Up Learn is best used to complement what students are learning in the classroom to ensure your child gets the best grade possible.

The platform can support students with:

Video lessons to help them understand new topics, break down complex material and ensure students are coming to class ready to stretch their knowledge beyond the basics.
Quizzes and Summary content to make sure they are memorising course content and have mastered more tricky topics
Exam how-tos, mark scheme breakdowns and practice papers (created exclusively for Up Learn by official examiners) ensure that students are comfortable with the jump in exam technique from GCSE to A Level.
