As with so many things this year, the annual CHS Sixth Form Open Evening could not take place in its usual format. Not to be deterred, the Sixth Form team have moved online to host a virtual event. From Thursday 22nd October, Year 11 students from Congleton and surrounding areas and their parents and carers can discover what CHS offers after GCSEs by logging on to congletonhigh.com.

The extended Virtual Open Evening will enable students coming to the end of their main school journey to see how the school can offer them access to high quality learning and enrichment opportunities. Using video to introduce the team, the facilities and the courses available, online visitors can also access lots of additional information to help them make the Post 16 choice that is right for them and their future education and career aspirations.

Congleton High has a great deal to offer to help set Sixth Form students on their journey to a successful and rewarding career. With consistent pass rates of 99+%, many of the alumni have gone on to pursue a wide range of positive pathways including Oxbridge and Russell Group university courses, degree apprenticeships, apprenticeships and employment.

As the largest local provider of Sixth Form education in the town, the school has a proven track record of excellence and prides itself equally on its exceptional quality of teaching and student outcomes. As noted by Ofsted:

“The school gets as much delight from a student achieving an apprenticeship in a local engineering firm as from another who gets a place at Oxford or Cambridge.”

Congleton High offers a broad range of Sixth Form courses to suit all interests and aptitudes and ensure each student is well prepared for their choice of university, apprenticeship or employment. There really is something for everyone, with students able to select from a varied menu of A Levels, including Government and Politics, Photography and Sociology, alongside the sciences, languages, History and English, to name but a few.

Alternatively, Sixth Form students can opt for vocational courses, like Sport, Engineering and Childcare, and benefit from the school’s strong links to local employers who visit school to share their industry experience and expertise and offer invaluable work placement opportunities. There is even the option to ‘mix-and-match’ academic and vocational subjects for truly tailor-made education.

All students receive impressive one-to-one personal support and guidance, with strong staff/ student working relationships. The highest achieving (at least five GCSE 7-9 grades) are invited to join the aspirational ‘Honours Programme’, a scheme designed to ensure individuals are able to fully realise their potential. These students, and many others from Congleton High, have gone on to take up places in Oxford, Cambridge and other top Russell Group universities.

Along with current Congleton High students, applications are also invited from those currently studying at other schools. Previous years have shown that external candidates find a warm welcome and that they quickly settle in and enjoy success. After a few weeks it is very difficult to spot the ‘freshers’!

Financial support is also available if required, making it less of a struggle for students to remain in education after sixteen and school buses from all surrounding areas including Mow Cop, Biddulph and Kidsgrove, mean that transport is not an issue.

Students can apply to the school directly for a Sixth Form place and all relevant information and application forms are on the webpage, along with information on the maintenance and transport bursaries available. The application deadline for a Year 12 place in the CHS Sixth Form is 15th December 2020 although later applications will still be considered.

The Virtual Open Evening will remain live on congletonhigh.com throughout October, November and December to enable students, parents and carers to visit as many times as they need.
